Bengaluru, Karnataka — An 18-year-old medical entrance exam aspirant from Karnataka died by suicide on Thursday, weeks after appearing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2024. The student, identified as Bhagyashree, was found dead at her residence in the Kengeri area of Bengaluru, according to police sources.
Bhagyashree had appeared for the NEET exam on May 5, 2024, which is a critical national-level entrance test for admission to undergraduate medical programs across India. According to family members, she was a bright and motivated student who had been preparing for the competitive exam for several years. Her relatives told reporters that she had been under significant stress due to the high expectations from her family and her own aspirations to pursue a career in medicine.
