Ahmedabad Police have arrested a senior bank employee for allegedly siphoning off ₹8.7 crore from a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) currency chest located in the city. The accused, identified as Rajeshkumar Patel (42), worked as a manager at a public sector bank in Ahmedabad and was responsible for handling currency operations at the RBI chest.
According to officials from the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch, Patel misused his access to the currency chest between June 2022 and March 2024, diverting large sums of money through fraudulent entries and fake withdrawal slips. Investigations revealed that the funds were transferred to multiple shell companies and personal accounts before being used for purchasing high-value properties across Gujarat and Maharashtra.
