Chennai, May 31, 2026: An 18-year-old girl was killed and another severely injured when a sports utility vehicle rammed their scooter on the Koyambedu flyover late on Saturday night. The incident has been registered as murder after CCTV footage showed a premeditated attack by a six-member gang, according to police sources.
Yancy, 18, the daughter of Mary Stella, was living at the Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp in Anichankuppam, Villupuram district. She had become friends online with a minor girl from Ramapuram, Chennai, and had been staying at the minor’s house for about a week. On Saturday night, Yancy visited a private bar in Koyambedu. While dancing with the minor girl inside, a six-member gang allegedly picked a quarrel with her. Bar security personnel intervened and asked the entire group to leave immediately. Once outside, a verbal altercation escalated into physical assault. Yancy and the minor girl then left the scene on their scooter, heading home.
