A tragic incident in Tamil Nadu’s Thalavaipuram has led to the registration of a case against a police inspector and two constables after a farmer died by suicide amid a long-standing land dispute. The deceased, identified as Antony Raj (63), a resident of Thalavaipuram near Sivagiri in Tirunelveli district, reportedly took his own life on May 24, 2026, following alleged harassment and threats from police officials.
The conflict began when Antony Raj and his neighbor, P. Pasupathi, filed complaints with the Sivagiri Police Station regarding a disputed piece of land. On May 1, 2026, Pasupathi approached the police claiming that Antony Raj was encroaching on his land. The police advised both parties to undergo a government land survey to resolve the issue. They also instructed that if either party was dissatisfied with the survey results, they could seek legal recourse through the courts. However, Antony Raj allegedly initiated construction on the disputed land even before the survey could be completed.
