Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh – A festive wedding ceremony in the Patwadh Kautuk slum of Azamgarh district turned into a chaotic scene late Friday night after a woman accompanied by police arrived at the venue, alleging that the groom was in a long-standing relationship with her and demanding the marriage be stopped immediately. By the time police reached the spot, the wedding rituals had already been completed, and both the bride and groom had reportedly fled, leaving guests stunned and the event marred by violence.
According to Bilriyaganj police station records, the incident unfolded during a wedding procession at the bride’s residence in Patwadh Kautuk. The groom, identified as Brijesh Kumar from Gadhwal village, had returned home on leave and the marriage was being solemnized after being fixed 1.5 years ago. The bride’s family stated that they had also registered a court marriage and organized the ceremony upon the groom’s return. However, the arrival of another woman, claiming to be in a long-term relationship with the groom, disrupted the proceedings.
