Thoothukudi, May 31, 2026: In an act of honesty and civic duty, sanitation workers of Thoothukudi Corporation successfully recovered and returned a five-sovereign gold chain to a local woman after it was accidentally discarded with household waste. The incident highlights the integrity of municipal workers and the responsiveness of the city’s waste management system.
The recovery unfolded on Sunday morning during routine door-to-door garbage collection in Anna Nagar, a residential locality in Thoothukudi. Sanitation teams, including vehicle driver Esakkiraja and sanitation workers Muneeswari, Rani, and Pon Selvi, were collecting waste from multiple areas and transporting it to the composting centre in Kathirvel Nagar. Among the residents who disposed of waste that day was Muthumalai, a resident of Anna Nagar Third Street. She placed her household refuse into the collection vehicle as usual.
