A tragic incident occurred in Gobichettipalayam taluk, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday evening when a couple lost their lives after lightning struck their meat shop. The victims, identified as Suresh (42) and his wife Manjula (38), were operating their small outlet on Moopan Road near Siruvalur when the incident took place around 6:10 p.m. The area was experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at the time.
According to police reports, the couple was inside their tin-roofed shop, which was situated beneath a tamarind tree. Eyewitnesses stated that the couple reportedly collapsed unconscious immediately after the lightning strike. Personnel from the Siruvalur police station rushed to the spot and rescued the couple, shifting them to the Government Hospital in Gobichettipalayam for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of the medical team, the couple was declared dead upon arrival.
