Sivaganga, May 25, 2026: The family and relatives of Akash Delison, a 22-year-old Scheduled Caste youth from Manamadurai who died in police custody, continued their relentless protest on Monday, marking the 79th day since they refused to accept his body. The protestors, including Akash’s parents Rajesh Kannan and Anandhavalli, gathered at the Sivaganga Collectorate and submitted a petition to District Collector K. Porkodi, demanding the immediate arrest of the police personnel accused of causing his death through custodial torture and assault.
Akash and another youth, Guna, were arrested by Manamadurai police on the night of March 5, 2026, in connection with a case involving the hacking of two labourers. According to the police, Akash suffered a leg fracture while attempting to escape and was admitted to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, where he died on March 8 after treatment failed. However, his family has vehemently denied this account, alleging that Akash was subjected to severe torture and assault in custody, which ultimately led to his death.
