Fuel prices surged again on Monday, with petrol rising by ₹2.61 per litre and diesel by ₹2.71 per litre, marking the fourth consecutive increase in less than two weeks. This fresh hike is expected to deepen financial strain on households and raise transportation costs, as consumers continue to face rising fuel expenses amid volatile global energy markets. Since fuel price adjustments resumed on May 15 after a prolonged freeze, cumulative increases have reached nearly ₹7.50 per litre for both petrol and diesel.
In Delhi, the latest revision pushed petrol prices to ₹102.12 per litre from ₹99.51, an increase of ₹2.61. Diesel prices jumped from ₹92.49 to ₹95.20 per litre, a rise of ₹2.71, according to industry sources. These figures were confirmed by market tracking data and reflect the current retail pricing in the national capital. The repeated price hikes follow a pattern of sharp increases across India, driven by elevated global crude oil prices and a weakening Indian rupee, both of which have significantly raised import costs for oil marketing companies.
