Fuel prices surged once again on Monday, May 25, 2025, as petrol became ₹2.61 per litre more expensive and diesel rose by ₹2.71 per litre. This marks the fourth price revision in less than two weeks, pushing household budgets and transportation costs higher across India. The latest increase follows a series of hikes starting May 15, after a four-year freeze on fuel prices, and comes amid elevated global crude oil prices and a weakening Indian rupee, which have raised import costs for oil marketing companies.
According to industry sources, the cumulative rise in petrol and diesel prices has now reached nearly ₹7.5 per litre since fuel price adjustments resumed on May 15. In Delhi, petrol now costs ₹102.12 per litre, up from ₹99.51, while diesel is priced at ₹95.20 per litre, an increase from ₹92.49. These revised prices reflect the growing pressure on consumers already struggling with rising living costs.
