The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has officially stepped into the escalating controversy surrounding the upcoming Bollywood film *Don 3*, following reports that actor Ranveer Singh walked out of the project just days before the scheduled commencement of filming. The development has triggered a serious internal review by the industry body, with senior officials preparing to take decisive action after an urgent internal meeting.
Ashoke Pandit, Chief Advisor of FWICE, described the situation as “very serious” and condemned what he termed a dangerous trend of actors withdrawing from films at the last minute. Speaking to the *Bombay Times*, Pandit emphasized that such actions disrupt production schedules and harm the broader interests of the film industry. “This trend is very wrong. You can’t withdraw from a project 10 days before the shoot starts,” he stated. “We are having an internal meeting first, and then we are taking a call.” The federation has scheduled a crucial internal meeting involving key office-bearers, including FWICE President B.N. Tiwari, Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, Honorary General Secretary Ashok Dubey, and Treasurer Gangeshwarlal Shrivastav. A press conference is also expected to follow the meeting to announce the federation’s official stance on the matter.
The dispute reached FWICE after Excel Entertainment, the production banner behind *Don 3* headed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, reported significant financial and creative losses due to Ranveer Singh’s reported exit. Sources indicate that the production team had invested heavily in pre-production activities, including locking key creative plans, only to face disruption when the actor stepped away shortly before filming was set to begin. While details of the exit remain unconfirmed publicly, reports suggest that talks between the actor and the producers had not reached a final resolution.
Farhan Akhtar, in an interview with *The Hollywood Reporter India*, acknowledged the volatility in the film industry over the past few years, stating, “A lot has happened over the last couple of years. You learn to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film.” His remarks reflect the uncertainty that has surrounded *Don 3*, which was initially announced as the third installment in the popular *Don* franchise. The previous two films, *Don* (2006) and *Don 2* (2011), starred Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan respectively, and generated substantial box-office success.
Before the matter reached FWICE, the Producers Guild of India had reportedly attempted to mediate between the actor and the production house. However, sources indicate that negotiations did not yield a conclusive outcome, leaving both sides in a state of impasse. The escalation to FWICE suggests that the industry is now treating the issue as a systemic concern rather than a private contractual dispute.
*Don 3* was highly anticipated due to its star power and the legacy of the franchise. The film’s reported casting changes have drawn significant public and media attention, amplifying concerns about the stability of big-budget productions in Bollywood. FWICE’s intervention signals a broader effort to establish clearer norms around contractual obligations and professional conduct in the film industry, especially when projects are on the brink of production.
As the industry body prepares to deliberate on the matter, stakeholders across Bollywood are closely watching the outcome. The decision by FWICE could set a precedent for how similar disputes are handled in the future, reinforcing accountability and professional discipline in an era marked by high-profile departures and production delays.
