The Allahabad High Court has granted interim relief to a Bhim Army functionary who was booked by police for allegedly posting derogatory content about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The court observed that the material relied upon by the police was “insufficient” to justify the charges and restrained the authorities from taking any coercive action against the accused.
The petitioner, identified as Sachin, is a member of the Bhim Army, a Dalit rights organisation led by Chandrashekhar Azad. He had approached the court seeking protection from arrest and quashing of the FIR registered against him in connection with a social media post. The post, which surfaced in April 2023, allegedly contained insulting remarks against the Chief Minister.
