Kanpur Police have sent the amputated hand of a 58-year-old woman—identified as the mother of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan—to a forensic laboratory for detailed examination, asserting that the results could be crucial to the ongoing investigation. The woman, who reportedly suffered severe injuries during a violent altercation in Kanpur’s Kidwai Nagar area on the night of May 15, had her hand surgically amputated at a local hospital before being declared dead. Authorities have classified the incident as suspicious and are pursuing multiple leads.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shiv Ram Singh, the forensic analysis of the amputated limb is expected to reveal critical forensic evidence, including DNA, blood traces, and potential signs of struggle or assault. “The forensic report will play a definitive role in establishing the sequence of events and identifying those responsible,” SSP Singh told the media. He added that the probe is being conducted with high priority, and a special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to examine all aspects of the case.
