Thiruvananthapuram, June 2, 2026 — The Kerala government has intensified pre-monsoon preparedness activities across 17,661 wards in a coordinated statewide effort, with senior ministers reviewing progress and warning of rising risks of infectious diseases during the upcoming monsoon season.
Speaking in the State Assembly on Tuesday, Minister for Local Self-Governments K.M. Shaji said all planned activities are on schedule and a full-fledged review meeting of department heads and district officials was held on May 25. The assessment so far has been found satisfactory. Cleaning and monsoon preparedness measures are being carried out by health and sanitation committees in all 17,661 wards, and cleaning campaigns have already been organized in 13,164 wards. Additionally, over 21 lakh wells across the state have been chlorinated to prevent waterborne diseases.
