Mumbai, August 12: In a major push for India’s defence manufacturing self-sufficiency, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Monday that Maharashtra will set up four dedicated defence industrial corridors. Speaking to media, Fadnavis stated that the state government is actively engaging with the central government to finalise the locations and infrastructure plans for these corridors. He emphasised that this initiative aligns with the Centre’s vision under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) campaigns, aiming to reduce import dependence and enhance domestic production of defence equipment.
The proposed corridors will serve as integrated hubs for defence manufacturing, research and development, testing, and logistics. While specific locations were not disclosed, Fadnavis indicated that the state is evaluating industrial zones with existing infrastructure and logistical advantages. He highlighted that these corridors will attract investments from both public and private sectors, including multinational defence firms and MSMEs. The move is expected to generate thousands of high-skilled jobs and position Maharashtra as a key player in India’s defence ecosystem.
