The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revealed plans for a third expressway corridor linking Mumbai and Pune, promising to reduce travel time between the two major cities to just 90 minutes. The proposed project, estimated to cost ₹15,000 crore, aims to enhance road safety, boost freight logistics, and alleviate congestion on existing routes.
According to officials, the new expressway will directly connect with the recently inaugurated Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link), facilitating smoother and faster intercity movement. The corridor is expected to run parallel to the existing Mumbai-Pune Expressway (Pune Expressway) and the older National Highway 4, introducing modern infrastructure and advanced traffic management systems.
