India’s natural rubber (NR) production increased by 3.4% to 9.05 lakh tonnes during the fiscal year 2025-26, according to an official statement released by the Rubber Board on Wednesday. This rise occurred despite a notable decline in imports, which dropped by 16.7% to 4.59 lakh tonnes from 5.51 lakh tonnes in the previous year. The increase in domestic output was attributed to favorable climatic conditions and stronger domestic prices, which remained relatively stable throughout the year.
The Rubber Board highlighted that total NR output rose from 8.75 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 to 9.05 lakh tonnes in 2025-26. Consumption also saw a marginal increase of 1.2%, reaching 14.27 lakh tonnes compared to 14.10 lakh tonnes in the prior year. Officials cited several measures that contributed to this growth, including rain guarding, self-tapping, scientific farming practices, capacity-building programs, and plant protection initiatives. The Rubber Production Incentive Scheme implemented by the Kerala government played a significant role in encouraging growers in the state by offering a guaranteed price.
