Coimbatore city officials have launched an investigation after a video surfaced showing a conservancy worker allegedly finding worms in breakfast provided under a municipal scheme. The incident occurred in Ward 91 at Podanur, where a sanitation worker reported the presence of a worm in the food item distributed as part of the breakfast programme for conservancy staff.
According to officials from the Coimbatore Corporation, the city employs approximately 1,900 permanent conservancy workers and 4,650 contract workers. The breakfast scheme, designed to support these workers, provides meals daily across 100 wards in the city. Breakfast preparation takes place at three designated kitchens, from where it is distributed through 106 centres.
