Members of the South Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SCRWWO) conducted a hydration drive at Vijayawada railway station on Sunday, distributing buttermilk packets to passengers, auto-rickshaw drivers, and railway workers to help them cope with extreme summer heat. The initiative was led by SCRWWO president Versha Sonakiya, who highlighted the importance of the campaign in protecting vulnerable groups during peak summer months.
The drive, organized in collaboration with Bharat Scouts and Guides and volunteers, saw the distribution of around 1,000 buttermilk packets across waiting halls, platforms, and the Clock Tower area of the station. SCRWWO Secretary Niharika emphasized the health risks posed by rising temperatures, urging the public to stay hydrated by regularly consuming water and buttermilk. “The rising heat can lead to dehydration affecting the health conditions of passengers and frontline workers,” she said, stressing the need for frequent hydration.
