A fire broke out for the second time this month at a commercial complex in Mumbai’s Andheri suburb on Tuesday evening, gutting part of the office premises and a nearby residential flat. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm at the Prasad Business Centre on Andheri-Kurla Road, a multi-storey building housing several corporate offices and shops.
Firefighters from the Andheri fire station responded within minutes, deploying six fire tenders to contain the blaze. The fire, which started on the second floor, quickly spread to the third floor and engulfed a ground-floor flat in the adjacent residential building due to radiant heat. Eyewitnesses reported thick black smoke billowing from the complex, causing panic among nearby residents. No casualties were reported, but three people, including a child, were treated for minor smoke inhalation and released from a nearby hospital.
Initial investigations by the Mumbai Fire Brigade suggest an electrical short circuit as the likely cause. This is the second fire at the same complex within a month—an earlier blaze on May 5 had damaged parts of the second floor, leading to temporary closure of several offices. Following that incident, the building management had been advised to upgrade electrical wiring and install fire safety equipment, but it remains unclear whether these recommendations were fully implemented.
