A kilometre away from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, a temporary shelter home with a capacity of 60 beds, equipped with coolers and fans, remains largely unoccupied. The shelter home, located inside a community hall in Green Park, is one of the many initiatives undertaken by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to provide relief to patients and their attendants from the scorching heatwave. However, many patients and attendants continue to spend their nights on the footpaths outside the hospitals, battling the heat with hand fans and thin bedsheets, unaware of the existence of such shelter homes.
