Bengaluru, June 01: Six police officers, including a sub-inspector, have been suspended following a serious security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Art of Living (AOL) Foundation in Bengaluru on May 10. The suspensions were ordered by Bengaluru South Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Srinivas Gowda, who chose not to disclose the names of the suspended officers. This disciplinary action comes nearly two weeks after explosives were discovered near Kuppareddy Kere, approximately 2 km from the AOL center, along the route taken by the Prime Minister’s convoy.
The explosives, including two gelatin sticks, matchsticks, camphor, batteries, wires, a real-time clock, and an LCD display, were found packed inside a carton box near the compound wall of a private property, just 25 feet from the main road. According to police reports, a constable spotted the suspicious box one and a half hours before the Prime Minister’s convoy was scheduled to pass through the route. Despite this early detection, the security breach raised serious concerns about the preparedness and oversight of the police personnel responsible for the Prime Minister’s safety.
