A severe heatwave is currently gripping several parts of the country, prompting a massive influx of tourists to seek refuge in cooler climates, such as Himachal Pradesh's popular hill station, Manali. The sudden surge in tourist numbers has led to severe traffic congestion in and around Manali, with commuters facing hours-long delays on key routes. On Saturday night, the situation worsened, with vehicles crawling at a snail's pace, leaving many travelers stranded and frustrated.
According to eyewitnesses, the traffic congestion was unprecedented, with long queues of vehicles stretching for miles. A tourist, who wished to remain anonymous, described the ordeal, saying, "We have been stuck here for over an hour, and it's been a nightmare. The traffic is moving at a glacial pace, and we're having a lot of trouble. The authorities should take immediate action to control the traffic and prevent such situations in the future." The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist across large parts of northwest, central, and eastern India, further exacerbating the situation.
