Tirunelveli, June 1, 2026: Three individuals from Delhi were sentenced to two months imprisonment and fined ₹1,000 each by the First Judicial Magistrate Sathya on Monday after they were found guilty of defrauding a farmer from Panankulam, near Nanguneri, of ₹1 lakh under the false pretext of securing a scholarship for his daughter’s higher education.
According to the Tirunelveli Cyber Crime Wing, the fraudsters—identified as Raju (25), Rishi (27), and Rahul (35)—initiated contact with Lakshmanan, a 48-year-old farmer, over the phone. The accused falsely claimed that a scholarship had been sanctioned for Lakshmanan’s daughter and instructed him to pay ₹1 lakh in installments to receive the financial assistance. Lured by the promise of educational support for his daughter, Lakshmanan transferred the requested amount to the fraudsters.
