Two individuals, including a 15-year-old boy, lost their lives in separate electrocution incidents in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, following heavy rainfall that disrupted power infrastructure. The first incident occurred on Saturday night in Sattur taluk, while the second took place early Sunday in the Ammapatti police station area near Sattur.
In the first incident, M. Mariappan, a 57-year-old fireworks factory worker, was electrocuted after stepping on a live electric cable that had snapped and fallen onto a waterlogged road in Gandhi Nagar Reserve Line. According to police reports, heavy rain had been reported in Sattur and Sivakasi taluks on Saturday. Mariappan, walking home, failed to notice the live cable submerged under rainwater and was killed instantly. The incident has been registered for investigation by the Sivakasi Town police.
