Water levels in key reservoirs across Tamil Nadu remained stable on Monday, with the Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala holding steady at 111.35 feet—well below its maximum permissible limit of 142 feet. According to the latest data released by the Water Resources Department, the inflow into the Mullaperiyar dam stood at 240 cusecs, with an equal discharge of 240 cusecs, indicating balanced water flow without significant fluctuation. The dam, which serves as a critical water source for Tamil Nadu under a long-standing agreement, continues to operate within safe parameters as the monsoon season approaches.
Meanwhile, in the southern district of Theni, the Vaigai dam recorded a water level of 22.44 feet, far below its maximum capacity of 71 feet. The dam reported no inflow during the 24-hour period ending at 6 a.m. on Monday, while releasing 89 cusecs of water downstream. This low level reflects the limited rainfall activity in the catchment areas over the past day, though authorities remain cautiously optimistic about gradual replenishment as pre-monsoon showers progress across the region.
