New Delhi: The Supreme Court has taken strict action in the country’s biggest housing scam involving ₹14,000 crore and has sought a response from the Union government, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The top court has given these authorities until 10 July to reply. The bench has also questioned the role of the banks and financial institutions involved in the scandal.
The case came to light in 2019 when several banks accused builders of defrauding investors in residential projects. It was alleged that some developers diverted funds collected from customers for other purposes, causing losses to millions. The ED subsequently launched an investigation into the matter and filed cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against the accused.
