Dakshina Kannada’s District Planning Committee has finalised a ₹2,561.20 crore draft annual development plan for the financial year 2026-27. The approval came at a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Dinesh Gundu Rao, Karnataka’s Minister-in-charge for the district. The total allocation includes ₹244.37 crore earmarked under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) and ₹120.21 crore under the Scheduled Tribe Sub Plan (STSP), as stated in an official release.
The draft plan allocates resources across multiple departments, with the Education Department submitting the highest departmental demand of ₹91.87 crore. This sum will fund construction of new toilets and compound walls, and repairs of classrooms and school buildings across the district. The Social Welfare Department has requested ₹49.39 crore, while the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) has sought ₹51.50 crore. The Department of Backwards Classes Welfare has demanded ₹139.57 crore, and the Minorities Welfare Department has proposed ₹42.50 crore in funding requirements for various developmental initiatives.
