The Namakkal district administration has issued a strict directive to 22 private schools operating without mandatory government approval to cease all operations by the start of the 2026–27 academic year. In a formal press release issued on May 24, 2026, District Collector Durga Moorthy announced that while 237 private schools in the district are duly recognised by the government, 22 others are functioning illegally under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, and the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Act, thereby violating statutory provisions.
