The recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly election has thrown up some interesting trends, with a significant number of winners securing less than 50% of the total votes polled in their respective constituencies. According to a report released by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the Tamil Nadu Election Watch (TNEW) on June 2, 2026, at least 220 candidates who won in the election secured less than 50% of the total votes polled. This is a significant drop from the 2021 election, where winners secured an average of 48.37% of the total votes polled. In contrast, the winners of the 2026 election won with an average of 38.99% of the total votes polled.
