Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, made a high-profile site visit on Tuesday to oversee the rapid progress of the group’s Rs 30,000 crore (approximately $3.6 billion) thermal power project in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The mega project, which includes a 1,600 MW supercritical coal-based power plant and associated infrastructure, is now in full construction mode, with earthwork, foundation laying, and equipment installation underway.
Speaking to local officials and media on site, Adani emphasized the project’s strategic importance in meeting India’s growing energy demands and supporting Bihar’s industrial development. “This project will not only add significant power capacity but also create thousands of jobs and catalyze economic growth in eastern Bihar,” he said. The plant is expected to begin trial operations by late 2026, with commercial operations commencing in early 2027, pending regulatory clearances.
