The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has pledged to deliver a vaccine against the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus by December 2026, as the deadly outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to spread. Speaking to reporters during an online briefing on May 28, 2026, Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya confirmed that development efforts are already underway, with several vaccine candidates under consideration. “What we can tell you for sure, by the end of this year, 2026, Africa CDC will make sure that we have a vaccine and medicine against Bundibugyo,” Kaseya stated. He emphasized that African leaders are fully committed to investing both technically and strategically to ensure the vaccine becomes a reality.
