Agra’s Bateshwar village is all set to celebrate Ganga Dussehra with great fervour today. The festival, observed on the tenth day of the waxing moon in the Jyeshtha month, honours the sacredness and significance of the Ganga River. This year, special puja ceremonies and arrangements for a holy dip have been made at the Parthiv Ghat in Bateshwar.
According to local priests and officials, devotees began arriving at Parthiv Ghat as early as 5 am. The programme, which starts with sunrise, includes abhishek of Panchamrit symbolising Ganga Mata, special aarti, and devotional songs. Devotees are taking the holy dip with their families, praying for liberation from the cycle of life and death.
The Parthiv Ghat in Bateshwar, also known as Batukeshwar Mahadev Ghat, is one of the most important ghats on the Ganga. Historical records suggest that this spot has been significant since the time of the Mahabharata, with the Pandavas believed to have bathed here during their pilgrimage. It is widely believed that bathing here washes away all sins and grants moksha.
