The Punjab Police has taken strict action against Bikram Singh Majithia, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), by issuing a Lookout Circular (LOC) against him. This means Majithia cannot leave the country. The police have also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to arrest him and intensified their search operations. The action comes in connection with the incident of unrest at Majitha police station in Amritsar on Monday, where a person was forcibly freed from police custody.
The case dates back to the municipal elections held on May 26, when Majithia’s supporters allegedly created a ruckus at a polling booth in Amritsar. The police had arrested a booth agent in connection with the incident. According to the police, the arrested individual was taken into police custody at the Majitha police station. Following this, Majithia’s supporters allegedly forcibly freed the person from custody. The police have alleged that official records were tampered with during this incident. Based on these allegations, a case was registered against Majithia and his supporters, and a Lookout Circular was issued through the Home Ministry, anticipating their attempt to flee the country.
