The police have arrested two individuals transporting brown sugar concealed in red cloth bags during a crackdown on drug trafficking in Alipurduar district. The incident occurred in an area under the jurisdiction of Alipurduar Sadar Police Station. According to local sources, the operation was conducted based on intelligence inputs, leading to the recovery of nearly 5 kg of brown sugar from the red bags.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi Mallick (35) and Sumon Sarkar (28), both residents of the area. The police reported that no resistance was encountered during the operation. During preliminary questioning, the duo admitted they were transporting the contraband to sell in the local market. However, the Officer-in-Charge of the police station, Arindam Ghosh, stated that further investigation is underway.
The Alipurduar district police have assured that such operations will continue, with strict action taken against drug trafficking. Shyamal Chakraborty, the Superintendent of Police, said, "We are committed to making the district drug-free with the cooperation of local residents. These operations will persist, and legal action will be taken as necessary."
