Gaya, Bihar – A senior doctor serving as Head of the Department (HoD) of Neurosurgery at the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) in Gaya has been arrested by police for allegedly filing a false extortion complaint. According to officials, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh was taken into custody late on Monday evening after investigations revealed inconsistencies in his claim that he had been extorted by unidentified individuals.
The incident reportedly unfolded after Dr. Singh lodged a complaint at the Gaya Town police station on Sunday, alleging that he had been threatened and forced to pay ₹20 lakh. He claimed that the extortionists had demanded the money in exchange for not harming him or his family. However, during preliminary verification, police found discrepancies in the doctor’s account of the events, prompting them to dig deeper.
Sources privy to the investigation told the media that CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas did not corroborate Dr. Singh’s version of events. Additionally, no ransom demand calls or messages were found on his phone. Police also noted that the doctor had not reported the matter to senior hospital authorities or local administration before approaching the police station.
