Kota, Rajasthan, has witnessed a second maternal death within a month following a Caesarean section, intensifying scrutiny over surgical safety and post-operative care standards in the city’s public healthcare facilities. The incident occurred at the government-run Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital, where a 32-year-old woman, identified as Suman Devi from nearby Ladpura, died on May 25, 2024—just two weeks after another woman, Kamlesh, died under similar circumstances on May 10. Both deaths followed emergency C-sections performed at the same facility.
According to hospital authorities, Suman Devi underwent an emergency C-section due to obstructed labour. Initial reports suggest she developed complications, including severe postpartum haemorrhage and sepsis, shortly after the surgery. Despite medical intervention, her condition deteriorated, leading to her death. The local health department has initiated an inquiry and formed a medical board to investigate the causes of death and assess whether protocol violations or negligence played a role.
