The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday, May 27, 2026, refused to grant relief to Asaram Bapu in a case involving the sexual assault and rape of a minor. A division bench of the Jodhpur bench of the High Court, comprising Justices Arun Monga and Yogendra Kumar Purohit, upheld the life imprisonment awarded by the lower court in its entirety. The court ordered Asaram to immediately surrender, cancelling his bail. He was currently on parole, with his bail period extended until July 7, 2026.
In its verdict, the High Court clarified that the sentence imposed by the lower court in the case of rape of a minor could not be altered in any manner. However, in the same case, the High Court acquitted co-accused Shilpi and Sharatchand, setting them free from all charges. The only relief for the victim’s side came from the fact that Asaram’s sentence was upheld.
