KOCHI, May 25: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged assault on Indian Youth Congress activists by Kerala police officers—including those from former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s security detail—during the 2023 ‘Navakerala Sadas’ outreach programme in Alappuzha has submitted its final report to the State Police Chief (SPC). The team, led by Superintendent of Police A.P. Shoukathali, concluded that the police action was unlawful and recommended criminal charges against the officers involved. The report is now under review by the SPC, who will examine the findings before forwarding them to the Home Secretary for further action. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will then assess the report in light of the case’s political sensitivity and seriousness.
