Ayodhya, June 10, 2024: The Ganga Dussehra festival is being celebrated with great fervour in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, today. On this occasion, a grand Maha Aarti has been organised on the banks of the Sarayu River, featuring 11,000 lamps. The entire ghat is reportedly adorned with flowers and vibrant lights, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm among devotees and tourists.
Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the Dashami tithi (tenth day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the Jyeshtha month. It is believed that the Ganga River descended to Earth on this day, making it particularly sacred. The festival holds special significance in Ayodhya, as the Sarayu River here is revered just as the Ganga is. Local authorities and religious organisations have made elaborate preparations for the occasion. Devotees have been flocking to the Sarayu banks since morning, and the Maha Aarti will take place in the evening, attended by a large number of priests and devotees.
