Bengaluru, 25 August – The Karnataka capital Bengaluru was inundated on Thursday evening after sudden heavy rainfall. According to the weather department, the city recorded four times its normal rainfall in the last 24 hours. Nearly 120 mm of rain fell between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., submerging major roads and bringing traffic to a complete standstill.
Local residents reported that several areas, including Marathahalli, Koramangala and HSR Layout, were waterlogged. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) said bus services have been suspended due to the rain. In addition, many key routes are jammed with vehicles, causing widespread inconvenience. The administration has appealed to people to stay indoors.
Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials said they are working to clear the drainage system, but the process has been slowed by the relentless rain. Power supply has also been disrupted in many parts of the city, adding to the difficulties faced by residents. The health department has advised people to drink clean water and take precautions against mosquitoes.
