Cyclone fury and torrential rains that struck Bhagalpur district on Wednesday night have left life in shambles. Thousands of homes have been damaged, power supply has been cut off in several areas, and roads are clogged with fallen trees, poles, and other debris. In response, the state government has swung into action, with Energy Minister Arjun Nand Kumar and Road Construction Minister Sanjay Kumar Jarkhandi personally visiting the district to assess the situation.
The Energy Minister has deployed teams across Bhagalpur district to restore electricity, with engineers and technicians working round the clock. Reports as of Monday morning indicate that approximately 70% of power connections have been restored. However, officials say restoration in some remote areas may take more time.
Meanwhile, Road Construction Minister Sanjay Kumar Jarkhandi has directed officials to clear and repair key roads, including the Bhagalpur-Bihar Sharif route, which were blocked by debris. Over 15 kilometres of roads have been obstructed, hampering the movement of emergency vehicles. The Minister has assured locals that road works will be carried out on a priority basis to minimise inconvenience.
