The Union Cabinet has approved India’s first high-speed rail project, "Namo Bharat," and a new metro project in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These projects are expected to play a key role in developing the country’s fast and sustainable transport infrastructure.
Under the "Namo Bharat" project, India’s first high-speed rail initiative will be launched, aiming to provide faster and safer connectivity between different parts of the country. Additionally, the first phase of the Meerut Metro project has also been approved, which will significantly improve the city’s transport network.
The first phase of the Meerut Metro will span 23.6 km, connecting key areas of the city. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion in the region. The estimated cost for this phase is ₹8,939 crore.
