Patna, May 28, 2024 – In a move that will directly impact the common man's pocket, the state of Bihar will see a 15% increase in the fares of public transport vehicles such as buses and auto-rickshaws from June 1, 2024. The Bihar Motor Transport Federation (BMTF) has issued an official notification in this regard. Federation President Rameshwar Prasad Singh stated that this decision has been made in accordance with the guidelines of the state government's transport department. As per the new fares, the minimum fare for short-distance auto-rickshaw rides will be increased from Rs 12 to Rs 14, while the maximum fare will be raised from Rs 25 to Rs 28. Similarly, the fares for buses have also been revised. The per-kilometer fare for ordinary buses has been increased from Rs 2.5 to Rs 2.8, while the per-kilometer fare for express buses has been raised from Rs 3 to Rs 3.4. These new charges will be applicable in all districts of the state. According to the BMTF, the increase has become necessary due to the rising fuel prices and the cost of vehicle maintenance. The federation stated that this increase is being implemented after nearly three years. However, considering the inconvenience this increase may cause to the general public, the federation has appealed to people to be patient. They pointed out that even after this increase, the transport charges in the state will remain relatively low compared to other states. Following this increase, the state government has also provided a facility for people to register their complaints online. If anyone has any issues with the new fares, they can visit the transport department's official website and register their complaint. Additionally, the state government has instructed all transport service providers to display the new fare chart clearly in their vehicles.
