The Bihar government has increased the fares of transportation services. The fares of buses, as well as autos and e-rickshaws, plying in different parts of the state, have been increased by 10 to 15 percent. The new revised rates came into effect from midnight, i.e., 12:00 AM on May 31. According to the new rate list implemented at Muzaffarpur Bus Stand, changes have been made to the fares. As per the notification issued by the Transport Department, the bus fares have been increased by up to 15 percent, while the auto and e-rickshaw fares have been increased by 10 percent. The objective of this change is to consider the increasing costs incurred in operating transportation services. The state government has taken this decision due to the rise in fuel prices and other maintenance costs. The new rate list at Muzaffarpur Stand has specified different fares for various routes. For instance, the auto fare for short distances within the city has been increased from 20 rupees to 22 rupees, while the fare for longer routes has been increased from 120 rupees to 135 rupees. Similarly, the e-rickshaw fare has also been increased, where the fare for a distance of up to 5 kilometers has been increased from 30 rupees to 33 rupees. In the case of buses, the fare of ordinary buses has been increased by 15 percent, while the fare of AC buses has been increased by 10 percent. This change is likely to put an additional burden on the general public, especially those who use transportation services daily. However, the government claims that this increase is temporary and will work towards improving transportation services with more facilities in the future.
