In Bihar’s Purnia, along with the Seemanchal and Kosi regions, a highly organised and hi-tech ‘goat mafia’ network has become active in recent days. This is no ordinary cattle theft—it is part of an illegal business worth lakhs of rupees, involving the use of luxury vehicles such as Fortuner, Creta, Scorpio, Hyundai SUVs, and more. Operating in rural areas, this gang is reportedly earning nearly ₹50 lakh per month.
To execute this operation, flashy cars enter village lanes and, within seconds, snatch goats tied outside homes. The gang has spread across 7-8 districts, including Purnia’s Banmankhi and K.Nagar police station areas. According to local sources, dozens of young men are linked to this network. They scout villages in the morning, identify targets, and by evening, transport the stolen goats to designated meat shops in Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Supaul, and Saharsa. Within minutes, the goats are slaughtered and sold as meat, making it difficult for police to gather evidence.
