Bolpur in Birbhum district once thrived with *bahurupiyas*—street performers who doubled as stand-up comedians and entertained locals by donning different characters. Over time, however, this tradition has steadily faded. Many *bahurupiyas* have abandoned the art to pursue other livelihoods. In response, Karnataka-based artist Rajesh Kumar has stepped in with an innovative effort to revive the fading tradition in Bolpur.
Rajesh Kumar has long been associated with *bahurupiya* art. Recently, he arrived in Bolpur and began collaborating with local performers to restore the tradition and introduce it to the younger generation. He has already organised workshops across various parts of the town and set up training sessions to teach local youth the art of *bahurupiya*.
