Political activities in West Bengal have gained momentum with two major developments taking place today. Firstly, 35 new ministers were sworn in as part of Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari’s cabinet expansion. Secondly, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) expelled two newly elected legislators, Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities. These events have further intensified political tensions in the state.
In the cabinet expansion led by Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari, 35 new ministers took the oath of office and secrecy. This includes 13 cabinet ministers, three ministers of state with independent charge, and 19 ministers of state. Earlier, five ministers had already been sworn in. With this expansion, the total number of ministers in the state cabinet has risen to 41. The West Bengal Assembly has a maximum limit of 44 ministers, so three positions remain vacant.
