A horrific truck-container collision occurred this morning on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, resulting in the deaths of 12 pilgrims and injuries to over 15 people. The accident took place in the Mahuva area of Surat district. According to preliminary reports, the tragedy unfolded when a truck carrying pilgrims collided with a container.
Police sources stated that the truck driver attempted to overtake the container on the highway, but when the container suddenly braked, the truck rammed into it. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the truck was completely destroyed. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for immediate treatment, while the deceased were taken to the morgue.
District collector and police superintendent confirmed the incident and said that rescue and relief operations were immediately initiated at the spot. Ambulances and fire brigade teams joined the efforts to rescue the injured. Police personnel have registered a complaint at the scene and further action will be taken.
