The Muslim community in Bundi, Karnataka, will joyously celebrate Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha) today. According to religious belief, this festival commemorates the sacrifice and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and is observed annually on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah. This year, Bakrid falls on August 17, 2024.
Local Muslim leaders and mosque imams have already completed preparations for the festival. Key rituals include the sacrifice of animals such as sheep, goats, and camels. The meat from the sacrifice is divided into three parts—one for the poor, one for relatives and friends, and the remaining for the family’s own use. Special prayers (Salah) will also be offered on the day of the festival.
In various mosques across Bundi, special prayers will be held between 6 AM and 8 AM today. The date of the festival is determined based on the sighting of the moon from the holy city of Mecca, and the Indian government’s Ministry of Minority Affairs has officially declared this date.
